I have some extensive background in this field - if you do not mind maybe I can shed some light.

the temperament of a person never changes.....personality and preferences can change but temperament is very basic and fundamental.
Extraverts never become introverts and vice versa. A good analogy is being left or right handed......we may sometimes use the opposite hand and maybe become good at it, but if we are right handed we will never become left handed.

This is not to say that we never use another function. Introverts can be extraverted at times.....and extraverts can be in situations where they might feel shy at times. It is what we naturally prefer.....our natural instinctive preference.

The source of energy function: I/E
How are your batteries re-charged? Are you energized by people and action? Do you becom drained if you spend too much time alone? You may be an "E."

"I" If you find it necessary to be alone with yourself and your thoughts after spending a few hours with one or more people; Are you energized by thoughts and ideas but may be more inclined to keep your observations and decisions inside - then you may be an "I".

The information gathering function is: S/N
It is how you observe, or collect data about your world.

The decision making function: T/F
This is the process of making decisions about the information we have gathered.

Life style orientation function: J/P
This deal with which function - 'information gathering' or 'decision making' - you most naturally use you most naturally use to relate to the outer world, verbally and behaviorally.

Again - we can use the other type of function that is not most natural for us......but which functions are the one we are most comfortable using typically indicates the letters we are.

It is difficult to take the test online rather than with a professional who can help guide you through the process.....that is why people will usually come out different types at different times.

Since I am an "NF" ENFJ - I found it interesting looking at others who fit into the NF category. So far we seem to like the same type of phero's......which I find very interesting......

I think we will see some type of pattern develop whether people fall in to the "SJ", "NF", "SP", or "NT" types.....
As long as people are getting their TYPE correct. If what you read in the TYPE description does not fit....you probably have gotten the wrong TYPE.

I get intp everytime I take one of those tests. To answer the pheromone question, I favor androsterone products seasoned with IO and Ishine .

Default Re: Meyers-Briggs 'typing' & pheromones

I am ESFJ - I think it fits. But I dislike terry Bradshaw and hate to think I am like him! This was fun - Thanks Schell0385!

Still have to figure out what pheromone type would work best.

Guardians of birthdays, holidays and celebrations, ESFJs are generous entertainers. They enjoy and joyfully observe traditions and are liberal in giving, especially where custom prescribes.
All else being equal, ESFJs enjoy being in charge. They see problems clearly and delegate easily, work hard and play with zest. ESFJs, as do most SJs, bear strong allegiance to rights of seniority. They willingly provide service (which embodies life's meaning) and expect the same from others.
ESFJs are easily wounded. And when wounded, their emotions will not be contained. They by nature "wear their hearts on their sleeves," often exuding warmth and bonhomie, but not infrequently boiling over with the vexation of their souls. Some ESFJs channel these vibrant emotions into moving dramatic performances on stage and screen.
Strong, contradictory forces consume the ESFJ. Their sense of right and wrong wrestles with an overwhelming rescuing, 'mothering' drive. This sometimes results in swift, immediate action taken upon a transgressor, followed by stern reprimand; ultimately, however, the prodigal is wrested from the gallows of their folly, just as the noose tightens and all hope is lost, by the very executioner!
An ESFJ at odds with self is a remarkable sight. When a decision must be made, especially one involving the risk of conflict (abhorrent to ESFJs), there ensues an in-house wrestling match between the aforementioned black-and-white Values and the Nemesis of Discord. The contender pits self against self, once firmly deciding with the Right, then switching to Prudence to forestall hostilities, countered by unswerving Values, ad exhaustium, winner take all.
As caretakers, ESFJs sense danger all around--germs within, the elements without, unscrupulous malefactors, insidious character flaws. The world is a dangerous place, not to be trusted. Not that the ESFJ is paranoid; 'hyper-vigilant' would be more precise. And thus they serve excellently as protectors, outstanding in fields such as medical care and elementary education.
Famous ESFJs:

U.S. Presidents: William McKinley William J. Clinton Jack Benny
Desi Arnaz ("Ricky Ricardo")
Don Knotts ("Barney Fife")
John Connally (former Governor of Texas)
Terry Bradshaw, NFL quarterback
Sally Struthers (All in the Family)
Mary Tyler Moore
Dixie Carter (Designing Women)
Steve Spurrier, Heismann trophy winner, Univ. of Fla. football coach
Sally Field
Danny Glover, actor (Lethal Weapon movies, Predator 2 Margaret Butt
Nancy Kerrigan (U.S. olympic figureskater)
Elvis Stojko (Canadian olympic figureskater)

Fictional ESFJs:

Babbitt (Sinclair Lewis)
Hoss Cartwright (Bonanza)
Leonard "Bones" McCoy (Star Trek)
Monica (Friends)
Haleh (ER)
Donald Duck
Rabbit, Winnie the Pooh

It's certainly a fun test. The college my where my dad taught was going to use this test to help with hiring staff. Crazy!

Its def something that falls into the category of pop psych. As SteveO said, his changed. That can happen frequently. Most true psychologists dont recognize it as a true personality test - or use it in a standard battery. The one in vogue is the Minnesota Multi Phasic Personality (MMPI) which gives a really accurate picture of a persons personality. Unfortunately, it cant be taken online.
We dont use it much at work - cos we have craxy crazy people - and they get an entirely different battery of tests. "Do you hear voices?" "Do you see only in black and white?" "Do the voices tell you to commit crimes?"

Hmmm. A good dissertation would be "The Effects of Spaceland on Scizophrenia"....

Some interesting facts.....

Carl Jung an associate of Freud starting researching in this field years ago.....The standard test is the MBTI.....and it is used in many corporate businesses today to hire individuals.....

As a doctor and scientist I first took the test through a psychiatric office....where you can still be tested today. The professional test is much longer and more in-depth than the online version.....which if people take themselves can come up with variances and errors. Through current research we believe that a persons temperament is written in their DNA, the same as someone having blue eyes, or blonde hair.

Idealist Portrait of the Counselor (INFJ)
Counselors have an exceptionally strong desire to contribute to the welfare of others, and find great personal fulfillment interacting with people, nurturing their personal development, guiding them to realize their human potential. Although they are happy working at jobs (such as writing) that require solitude and close attention, Counselors do quite well with individuals or groups of people, provided that the personal interactions are not superficial, and that they find some quiet, private time every now and then to recharge their batteries. Counselors are both kind and positive in their handling of others; they are great listeners and seem naturally interested in helping people with their personal problems. Not usually visible leaders, Counselors prefer to work intensely with those close to them, especially on a one-to-one basis, quietly exerting their influence behind the scenes.
Counselors are scarce, little more than one percent of the population, and can be hard to get to know, since they tend not to share their innermost thoughts or their powerful emotional reactions except with their loved ones. They are highly private people, with an unusually rich, complicated inner life. Friends or colleagues who have known them for years may find sides emerging which come as a surprise. Not that Counselors are flighty or scattered; they value their integrity a great deal, but they have mysterious, intricately woven personalities which sometimes puzzle even them.
Counselors tend to work effectively in organizations. They value staff harmony and make every effort to help an organization run smoothly and pleasantly. They understand and use human systems creatively, and are good at consulting and cooperating with others. As employees or employers, Counselors are concerned with people's feelings and are able to act as a barometer of the feelings within the organization.
Blessed with vivid imaginations, Counselors are often seen as the most poetical of all the types, and in fact they use a lot of poetic imagery in their everyday language. Their great talent for language-both written and spoken-is usually directed toward communicating with people in a personalized way. Counselors are highly intuitive and can recognize another's emotions or intentions - good or evil - even before that person is aware of them. Counselors themselves can seldom tell how they came to read others' feelings so keenly. This extreme sensitivity to others could very well be the basis of the Counselor's remarkable ability to experience a whole array of psychic phenomena.
Mohandas Gandhi, Sidney Poitier, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jane Goodall, Emily Bronte, Sir Alec Guiness, Carl Jung, Mary Baker Eddy, Queen Noor are examples of the Counselor Idealist (INFJ).

The Counselor (INFJ) is a more private person than the Teacher. They, too, can be found in the field of education as a professor , teacher, counselor, or educational consultant. Sometimes they feel a strong calling toward the religious life as clergy, nun, or director of religious education. Social service jobs, such as social worker, social scientist, or mediator can fit their needs. Some Counselors work in human services, marketing, or as a job analyst. Others are drawn to the arts as a novelist, designer, or artist. Says Benito, “My art is very personal. It expresses who I am at the same time reaching out to draw the viewer in. My art changes the viewer’s perspective of reality.”

Idealist women tend to be very romantic. They love to give and receive tokens of affection, such as an original poem, a hand carved box, or an item which reminds them of some shared experience. Men often appreciate their compassion and empathy along with their belief in others. When dating, they hope they’ll get to know each other through deep conversation.
All Idealists (NFs) share the following core characteristics:
  • Idealists are enthusiastic, they trust their intuition, yearn for romance, seek their true self, prize meaningful relationships, and dream of attaining wisdom.
  • Idealists pride themselves on being loving, kindhearted, and authentic.
  • Idealists tend to be giving, trusting, spiritual, and they are focused on personal journeys and human potentials.
  • Idealists make intense mates, nurturing parents, and inspirational leaders.
Idealists, as a temperament, are passionately concerned with personal growth and development. Idealists strive to discover who they are and how they can become their best possible self -- always this quest for self-knowledge and self-improvement drives their imagination. And they want to help others make the journey. Idealists are naturally drawn to working with people, and whether in education or counseling, in social services or personnel work, in journalism or the ministry, they are gifted at helping others find their way in life, often inspiring them to grow as individuals and to fulfill their potentials.
Idealists are sure that friendly cooperation is the best way for people to achieve their goals. Conflict and confrontation upset them because they seem to put up angry barriers between people. Idealists dream of creating harmonious, even caring personal relations, and they have a unique talent for helping people get along with each other and work together for the good of all. Such interpersonal harmony might be a romantic ideal, but then Idealists are incurable romantics who prefer to focus on what might be, rather than what is. The real, practical world is only a starting place for Idealists; they believe that life is filled with possibilities waiting to be realized, rich with meanings calling out to be understood. This idea of a mystical or spiritual dimension to life, the "not visible" or the "not yet" that can only be known through intuition or by a leap of faith, is far more important to Idealists than the world of material things.
Highly ethical in their actions, Idealists hold themselves to a strict standard of personal integrity. They must be true to themselves and to others, and they can be quite hard on themselves when they are dishonest, or when they are false or insincere. More often, however, Idealists are the very soul of kindness. Particularly in their personal relationships, Idealists are without question filled with love and good will. They believe in giving of themselves to help others; they cherish a few warm, sensitive friendships; they strive for a special rapport with their children; and in marriage they wish to find a "soulmate," someone with whom they can bond emotionally and spiritually, sharing their deepest feelings and their complex inner worlds.
Idealists are relatively rare, making up no more than 15 to 20 percent of the population. But their ability to inspire people with their enthusiasm and their idealism has given them influence far beyond their numbers.

Most of my life I've tested as an INFP. In the last few years I've tested as INTJ sometimes. Today I'm coming out (twice) as ISFJ, the Protector. Only the I is a strongly expressed preference.

I like the socials like IO , IH , Scent of Eros, MX135 , MX138 , MX140, MX134 , IS/B (not IS/A so much) copulins, and I love to be around (and wear a bit of) androsterone like in A314 , MX105 , and Pheroboy.
