Use mosquito nets? I don't live in actual houses anymore, but when I was a kid, we had mosquito nets installed with wood on windows and doors to prevent so many bugs from coming in, seems to do the deal with those ugly lizards too. (Yeah, I totally hated them especially when I've already had those horrors dropping on my head once in a while.)

Cowboy friend of mine once told me "You don't have to kill 'em all. You just have to make 'em want to go where the livin' is easy"

Round here moth balls (camphor) whole and crushed are a favorite. Spread around the foundation they'll keep out scorpions to skunks, stop dog diggin', cat peein', etc.

Your problem is on the inside so try this.

First put up fly strips, sweep the spider webs out of the corners, put out the roach motels. I'm sure you don't have any of those critters in your house, (riiight) but we need to be certain the reptiles are denied a food source.

Then we can get out the guns. Rosemary oil, thats the ticket. Smells sort of soapy clean. Apply early in the day. Rosemary is a stimulant. Occasional insomnia has been noted. Usual cautions apply. Pregnency, allergy, high blood pressure, epilepsy, etc. Antibacterial/viral. One of the ingredients that the Egytians mummified with. Direct application is insecticidal. Covers the scent of decomposition and misdirects carrion feeders like flys. Most animals (and reptiles) avoid direct contact.

Use a hand pump sprayer. 1 gal. is probably good. 2 qt. of water with as much rosemary oil as you think you can stand. 2-3 drops dishsoap is probably ehough surfactant to get the oil to emusify. Shake before application and every few minutes during application.

Find the place in your house with the biggest open cracks to the outside. Door, window, baseboard.

Start in the room farthest away. Apply the rosemary around window frames, door frames, baseboards. Don't forget plumbing and electrical feedthrus from the outside. (Even through conrete slabs) Do one room each day, working your way towards the place with the biggest open cracks.

Then mothball the foundation. Should clear out and keep out all kinds of creepy crawlys without a lot of killin'.

Olfactory engineering and the reptilian brain. Sounds familiar.

Thanks for the info.
I'm still not really sure it's a lizard, it might be a mouse after all, but one that's difficult to kill.. a bastard mouse who keeps leaving droppings..

man, around here lizards are considered to be a lucky sign in your home, they keep all sorts of insect populations under control. i wouldn't even consider killing one. a mouse however would be dead meat.

Is there a way to tell what it is from the droppings?
Eg whether its a mouse or cockroach or anything else..
Any website with some guide perhaps?
Its weird how it hides and only comes out at night, and the dog doesnt stop it..

unfortunately i'm a bit of an expert on lizard crap. while they do kill off a lot of insects they obviously need to make new space for the next meal haha. the smallest lizards or geckos only leave behind one very small dropping. always black and on one end there will be a very small white "tail".

i think mice and rats leave clusters of crap so it is very easy to tell the two apart.
