Because I couldn't keep up with the other members on the forum in the intro section, I added this to my RSS reader:

It keeps me updated with the latest posts and lets me know when there is a new one! Perfect

I have a question. I signed up at the store with a different user name. I wasn't aware the store and forum were connected. Would there be a potential mix up if I did this?

Ok I will give you a run down on how this works.

Rep points in the forum (the little blue number on the left) have nothing to do with credit in the store.

They are just a indication of posts that other people enjoyed and gave you reputation for.

First responser bonuses are different. You get points if your in the first three posts welcoming a new members in the intro section.

#1 spot 500 points
#2 spot 250 points
#3 spot 125 points

If you see me post in one of those spots, my post dosnt count towards points so post below me. There are rules in this section which are posted throughout this thread by Jasmin and steveO so read those to because I do enforce them

The names are all logged in everyday and tallied up every 2 weeks or so. Then they are added to your store account points and your sent a PM letting you know they will be in your account. If we can not match your email and username to the correct one in the store then one of us SteveO or myself will contact you and get that straightened out.

You also get points for spending money in the store. So when you order, any cash portion of that order will earn you 10 points for every dollar spent. You dont earn points on points used to pay for order or your GC .

Androtics rocks when it comes to helping people get discounts on the products.

Tisha
Alright thanks so much for getting me up to speed on the ins and outs of the introductions. Of course if I'm just bored I may say hello anyways.

Default Re: Greeting New Members - First responder bonus!

hi, i was wondering how the androticsdirect and the pherotalk accounts are linked?
I used the same email for both, but others might not?
or do you do it by IP adress, which can change?
mac adress? which wouldn't work for people who use more then one computer. lol
anyways just wondering what method you guys use, cuz i don't rember linking my two accounts at all.
but i actually used the same user name password and email for both
if you like to keep it a secret i completely understand
thanks

The way I see it, I like to take time and actually cater to the needs of the newcomer, to actually give them high quality advice. but by the time I get done making my high quality response, I've already been gutted down by someone who posted only the minimum required to earn the bonus.

I say instead of giving points by post number, give the 500 to the most beneficial of the top 3, 250 to the next most helpful, and 125 to the next most helpful of the three.

This will not only lead to better, more though out responses, but also take out the competitive aspect of it.

Just a thought,

-mco

I have had the same thought several times. It does seem as if speed is more prized than quality. I hope that isn't so.

This seems like it would be an improvement on the current system but I can also see how it could be subjective at times. It may also lead to increased responsibility for the person awarding the points.

I would say however currently the system appears to favour speed over quality. However I trust that you will act in the most appropriate way for both your workload and the forums image. I'm thankful that there is even a bonus at all and you really do treat your customers well here. Keep up the good work!

I couldn't agree more. This is a unique system, with generous people behind it. I have been very pleased with the Androtics customer relations.

Default Re: Greeting New Members - First responder bonus!

I gave up with the intro section once i noticed that even if I caught a post within the first minute, I would simply write too much to get my post out the door before being the 5th or 6th person.

I also think it would be better if it were delegated to more experienced and respected users.

I also don't think that new users are the ones who "most need" the points. But that is beyond the "point." I think that it defeats the "point" entirely. The section is supposed to be about giving advice to the new users, so other new users are the worst ones possible to depend on giving it.

Personally, I think it would be much wiser to have a small group responsible for answering newbie posts. People who:
A) They've got a willingness to understand all the products
B) They've got a willingness to experiment with new products
C) They visit the forum frequently

People in category B are the best ones to give advice since they've "tried it all first hand", and they are the people most likely to use the points to try something completely new and mysterious to them.

You could relegate it to people in the advanced user category, They've already got a track record. You could have a small rotating group, maybe assign a new group each month, and once you work a month you can't work another for X months.

I think there are other ways that the quality of advice can be improved while still making it "fair" and while still keeping the same level of official "maintenance."

Or leave it open to everybody, but change the reward.
maybe instead of points, award specific products. Say write X posts, get X amounts of product X. Make it a Putative that doesn't have much written about it. Make it an overstocked MX that simply isn't selling. Could be a great way to get inexperienced users more experience.
