mostly, I think that is right particularly about the stamina and super-unglamorous nature of the job. (and of course get rich quick schems are scams).

connections and/or the right credentials earlier on in your career v helpful to get an early foot in the door if you choose to pursue a career at a large bank or money management company.

the ecology does provide for various different kinds of people to eke out a living though. if you're as bright a mathematician as Richard Simmons of Renaissance, that is certainly one route.

but being bright enough, having an intuitive feel for probability and risk (evidently this is handled by a different brain module than 'G' because it is a surprisingly rare trait), being able to manage your emotions and becoming obsessed enough by markets to spend five years of sixty hour weeks just learning the basics probably give you a shot at doing okay in the business.

technology has in some respects broadened access to markets and next few years may see some interesting trading opportunities in sectors such natural resources and emerging markets.

a difficut way to make an easy living. hard but not impossible to pursue as a career if one has the skills and prepared to pay life's tuition fees.

There are always a precious few who are gifted at extreme thinking, they are equivalent to our top rank athletes, and as uncommon in the general population

Have a look at Nassim Taleb's "Fooled By Randomness"... good book, essential reading, I came to an almost identical, with significant points of non-agreement, perspective... I cannot tell you the number of mathematical experiments I ran purely out of curiosity or was it obsession (???)....

as always, those closest to the markets, with the best mathematical tools, and who know exactly how much they can safely leverage (or "gear" in Brit idiom) will do far better than the distant investor.

Most people do not have the neurological stamina, the physical cost at the level of subtle but non-trivial brain injury can be devastating, as can the cardiac wear and tear... you have to be built like a machine to consistently do this, or work as a back office non-entity. The Entities, with startlingly few exceptions, like Soros or his pal Jim Rogers... are burned to toast by 45...

I also think the music goes well with the delivery of the speech.

The first disc was about 45 minutes long. I was hoping to listen to these before work, but I usually only have about a half hour free in the morning for this type of stuff, so I may end up listening at bedtime. The directions say it's ok to fall asleep while listening, but this first one was so entertaining that I feel I'll miss out that way. At least while these are still new to me. Want to listen to another but the directions also recommend one a day.
It's been a week now.

How do you like it so far?

I like the mix of voices and music. The quality on Disk 4, "Dream Machine" isn't as good as the others. The main voice has a static sound to it. Since the rest of the soundtrack, including the peripheral voices are ok, I was wondering if the main voice was suppose to sound like that for some reason.

Not getting a chance to listen to a disk every day right now. I did go through the disks in order, one per day when I first got them though. If I get to work early enough, I've been listening to one of the shorter ones before the start of the day. Also sometimes listening as I go to sleep if I'm not too tired to mess with headphones when I go to bed.

No breakthroughs yet, but I figure they will take some time to take effect. Was having a bad week at work last week, attitude was at the lowest it's been in at least a year. Started one day hating my job and after listening to "Passion Enhancer," I hated it with a passion.

I have a bit of trouble visualizing what the speaker says to on the disks, but the instructions say it's "best not to follow the words of each voice, but to go with the flow and rhythm of the voices and sounds," so I don't think that's really an issue. I do like the visualizations of the final disk though, "Life's Supercharger," where you picture yourself as a giant puma facing down your challenge who is standing a crevass.

Just did the "Tenacious Resolve" CD this morning. I think it was only the second time I've listened to it and I know the first time I made it all the way through without falling asleep. This one may become my favorite. The title is a little misleading to me. Again, I think it would help their sales if they gave a better description of the product. Yes, it is geared toward to giving you a "do it now" attitude, but it also directs you to not letting your problems get the best of you and handling them with a sense of humor.

I can see why you would like to replace your cassette set with CDs. Unless you had an automatic cassette player, it would be disruptive in the flow to have to manually flip the cassette over to continue with the program. My Windows Media player shows the CD having a length of 49:34 minutes. But the last four minutes or so are actually blank, so it's actually no longer than ther other discs. I get the feeling that these were transfered directly from cassette which would explain the length of silence at the end.

I'm looking forward to listening to this one again soon.
